American Lines
The American Lines were a fleet of ocean liners that operated from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century. The company was initially known as the American Line, and later changed its name to the United States Lines. It was founded in 1871, and at its peak operated more than fifty vessels, including some of the largest and most luxurious ships of their time.
The American Lines operated transatlantic voyages from the US to Europe, as well as voyages to Canada, South America, and the Far East. The company was known for its luxurious accommodations and its commitment to safety. It was also one of the first companies to use wireless radio technology for communication and navigation.
The American Lines was eventually sold to the United States government in 1947, and the fleet was gradually decommissioned. The last ship of the American Lines, the SS United States, was decommissioned in 1969. The legacy of the American Lines continues to this day, with many of its ships still remembered fondly as some of the most luxurious and technologically advanced vessels of their time.
